10. Accessories
If you have already incorporated a colorful piece in your outfit, choose accessories that pair well with the neutrals in the ‘fit.
For jewellery, that might mean going with gold, rose-gold or silver jewellery depending on your skin tone.
Match purses, shoes, scarfs, etc., with your basic item, ie. black jeans with a black purse, to make the colourful item stand out.
This is where the closet organization that we did earlier comes into play.
If you already have your most worn accessories colour coordinated with your garments, there’s no thinking required in the morning.
Simply pick up both items and you’re good to go.
If you’re outfit consists entirely of neutrals and basics, choose the standout accessories that you don’t often get a chance to wear, like statement earrings for example.
Alternatively, if you want to go for more of a bold look, you can match your accessories to the colorful item you selected earlier.
NOTE: The same formula applies to all other layering items such as cardigans, jackets and coats.
Essentially, to strike harmony in your outfit you want one or a few standout pieces, while the rest of the outfit is more toned down.
